Having versatile items in your wardrobe is so important. I’ve had this midi skirt since August 2014 when I bought it for my cousins wedding and since then I’ve been able to wear it numerous times and for multiple dress codes. Today I thought I’d show you how I’ve worn it in a casual setting and a dressier setting. You will see that all the elements in both outfits are the same. Skirt, Top, Necklace and Lace up shoes. Obviously I have a strong aesthetic that I lean towards but it’s great because you can see how you don’t have to stray from your personal style to fit the occasion or current trend. When you have the right building blocks in your wardrobe, you can mix and match to your hearts content and then work towards being appropriate for whatever event you are attending.
Look One : Smart Casual
Top: Bonds, Skirt: French Connection (Similar Here), Shoes: Wittner, Necklace: Poppy Love
I wore this outfit on Christmas day. I wanted to be comfortable but also feel like I had put a bit of effort in. A t-shirt immediately dresses down any outfit but this one has a tiny bit of a gold fleck through it which made it feel a bit more festive. I knotted it at the side but you could easily just tuck it into the skirt if you didn’t want to show any skin. I paired it with my favourite lace up flats and my gorgeous necklace was a gift I received on the day.
Look Two: Date Night
Top: Seed Heritage (Similar Here), Skirt: French Connection (Similar Here), Shoes: Rubi Shoes (Similar Here)
I wore this outfit a few weeks ago on a date night out with my husband. It was a hot evening so I paired the skirt with a black silk cami and then lace up heels instead of flats. My heels are a block heel which makes it a little bit less formal but you could easily wear stilettos to make it even dressier. A little clutch and hint of colour from the necklace and the outfit is complete. When wearing highwaisted items I love this length of necklace as it helps elongate your torso which can often be cut off by the waist band of your skirt. And of course, black on black is always great for night time chic.
