If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’d know that I don’t tend to wear a lot of colour anyway, but this week I’ve unintentionally only worn black and white (with a little bit of denim thrown in). If you have a look at my last post you will see how it all started on the weekend and the above outfits are from this week.
My personal style philosophy is to work with a small amount of good quality, neutral pieces and mix and match what you’ve got to create your day-to-day wardrobe. By sticking to black and white, or a smaller colour palate, you’ll find it much easier to pair a greater amount of pieces. Once you’ve got your basics sorted you can then add in some colour and interest with accessories or extra layers to add more personality and fun to your look. You will probably have noticed that I tend not to add much to my basics as I prefer more effortless looks. This is partly due to my personal aesthetic but also because of the logistics of two small children ;).
As a rule of thumb, good quality denim in a few colours / washes, grey, black and white tops (this includes stripes), a good quality neutral coat and some on trend but neutral shoes are the key items to get you started and then you can either start to add in more colour or build in some more basics but in different fabrics and cuts. ‘Basic’ or ‘neutral’ doesn’t have to equate to ‘boring’ it is merely a base to help you get dressed every morning and then a blank canvas for you to style up if thats more your speed! xx
