One dress, Two Ways

img_0667-2img_0679

As a style blogger I am always looking for ways to take an item and create lots of different looks with it. This is a great way to save money, keep things interesting, and get more bang for your buck! For this post I decided to show you how I’ve styled a Little White Dress (LWD), two different ways. I feel like a LWD is a staple most women have in their closet for spring and summer already so hopefully this gives you a little inspiration. I’ve also focused on how you can turn a shorter dress into a tunic if you are worried about the length of some of the items in your wardrobe. This tip is especially good for us mums who need a little extra coverage when running around after our little ones.

Casual, tunic style.

Teamed with distressed denim, easy slides and a statement necklace this day time casual combo can take you anywhere. However swap out the flats for heels, lose the hat and this look immediately transitions to night.

Cool and edgy

Worn as a mini with a faux fur vest and ankle booties this look is immediately dressier and a little more street-style cool. Ideal for a date or girls night out.

5 Summer Essentials In 2 Outfits

Hello from Down Under!

If you follow my Instagram you would have seen that we made it home to Melbourne yesterday morning, safe and sound! It is so great to be back in town although it feels a bit weird to be on ‘holiday’ in your home state.

It has been so nice and warm and I’ve been enjoying dressing for the season with no cultural restrictions on my wardrobe. Just a heads up, I will probably be wearing shorts or short dresses for the majority of the time we are here; I missed it so much!

I love dressing in summer, it always feels more casual and effortless. Summer is a time when you can experiment with your look a little bit more and try things like prints, colour and proportions with no pressure to ‘get it right’. Having said that though, every year there are a few must have items.

Below I’ve highlighted my 5 picks and styled them in two outfits. My 5 essentials are:

  1. A Boater hat
  2. A striped dress
  3. Slides
  4. A wrap dress
  5. Fun Sunglasses i.e. reflective or coloured.

Outfit 1

Boater hats are huge this year, particularly tan straw styles with a black ribbon. This one is just from Cotton On but stores like Lack of Color do really great quality options too. Paired with a striped swing dress and slides, this outfit is basically my summer uniform. Easy to wear, on trend and comfortable. See below for links.

Outfit 2

You really can’t go wrong with a wrap dress and this bright purple one from My Boutique literally screams summer. The detailed neck line and slight open back makes the dress a little more sophisticated. I paired it with slides (again) and a fun pair of reflective sunnies to add a youthful, on-trend touch.

So as you can see it doesn’t take much to hit the summer must have list and you can easily mix and match all the items together to create a fun and easy capsule wardrobe for summer.

See you soon with some more short shorts and summer looks ;).

1.     Describe your personal style in 3 words

Creative, Classic and Comfortable

2.     What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?

At the moment I am all about the vest!  Such a great way to add interest to an outfit.

3.     Shoes or Handbags?

This is tough! I think I’m gonna say…bag.

4.     What do you love to wear on a night out without kids?

If I can escape the kids for a night I am all about sass and sparkle.  Heels and sequins all the way!

5.     What has been one of your most recent ‘fashion fails’?

I tried to embrace the boyfriend jean but with zero butt I ended up looking so ridiclous from behind that I did the world a favour and sent them to the local op-shop for some other fashion loving babe to enjoy.

6.     Accessories: Less or More?

MOOOOOOORRRRREEEEEEE!!! Bigger is better in my world.

7.     What’s on your Wish List for this season?

Hats, hats and more hats.  I just can’t get enough stuff to put on my head.

8.     Shoes: Heels or flats?

Unfortunately flats. I would love to do heels but the demands of motherhood force my feet into flats.

9.     Favourite designer?

I love the classic aesthetic of Chanel but also adore the wild, punk attitude of Vivenne Westwood.

10.  What is your go to ‘Mum-On Duty’ outfit?

Denim all the way!  A denim skirt or jeans makes mum life so simple and effortless.

11. What are you favourite ‘Affordable Fashion’ buys?

I am addicted to Kmart for simple affordable basics.  Then I top up the cool factor with cheap thrills from Sportsgirl, Cotton On and Dotti.

12. Where do you like to shop for your kids?

My kids live in K-mart!  The clothes are sooooooo cute and fashionable.  The big bonus- my kids love wearing them!

13. What is you best tip for dressing for a special occassion?
Wear what is comfortable.  You won’t have a good time if you can’t move, sit, eat or breathe.  Make sure you can wear the outfit without too much scaffolding and shapewear so you can focus on enjoying your night and carving up the dance floor!
14. If you could only get your hair, make up or a spray tan done for a night out which one would you choose?

I would go for make up.  I often get make up done at Napolean and claim back the cost of the make up on new items for the make up drawer.  I love learning  tips from the make up artists too.

Thanks so much for having me.
