My Pick: Oversized Denim Jackets

I love this time of year. We’ve entered into a new season, the weather is slowly starting to change and all of the new and forecasted trends that we saw on runways and in magazines months ago, are starting to show up in real life. One of my favourite trends for this Autumn / Winter is the oversized denim jacket. I mean oversized anything usually equates to comfortable (ahem, except for earrings!) and denim is universally wearable so its obvious that this trend is a winner straight off the bat.

I purchased the jacket above probably this time last year in New York, but I found it in the mens section of a department store. The good news is that now you don’t have to stray from your side of the store as there are PLENTY of oversized options available for us girls at the moment. Below are some of my picks for a great oversized denim jacket and of course they all come in under $150. Happy shopping :). xo

Hi guys!

Sorry my blog posts have been a bit sporadic lately! I am starting a new job (of sorts) and so for the first time since becoming a mum, I am having to figure out how to do this working mum juggle in a more permanent way. Up until now it has been manageable to fit in styling clients or small blog projects here and there, but in this new role I am working with another company so I need to work more traditional hours, as well as attend meetings and networking events. I will definitely share more details with you when I can but in the meantime please just bear with me :).

So I had a few staff meetings and training sessions this morning and I was so excited to be able to wear this new “Thousand Star Dress” I received from Daily Style Boutique. I love the cold shoulder details as well as the high neck with a subtle ruffle. Obviously as I am working within the fashion industry I can get away with this as work attire, however if you are in a more corporate environment, this dress would probably be better for weekend wear.

As I’ve mentioned before, ‘Cold Shoulder’ styles are a great take on the ‘Off The Shoulder’ trend. They give you the same effect but are more wearable and flattering on a greater variety of body shapes. I have quite broad shoulders and often look much wider across my chest when I wear an OTS style, however with the cold shoulder silhouette the extension of the sleeve down my arm helps to balance out my shoulders, and give my overall shape more proportion. So if you love the OTS style but don’t feel like it suits you for whatever reason, try the cold shoulder instead!

I hope you are all having a great start to the week, any working mums that can give me some tips on ‘doing it all’, I’d love to hear from you!!

Happy Australia Day 🙂

I hope all my Aussie friends have had a great day and most of you have enjoyed a day off. My daughter and I went to a birthday party this morning and then my husband and I hosted a BBQ this afternoon.

I wanted to pop in quickly with some pictures of this stunning dress that I was lucky enough to wear today. I am partnering up with Your Closet Hire this weekend and this is one of the dresses I picked out to hire. I will be blogging about the whole experience later this weekend, so today I will just leave you will the pictures (and the link so you can hire it for yourself).

For my fashion sisters out there who know their stuff, yes this dress retails at about $600 but the four day rental price is only $99 which means I am still well within my new $150 (per items) price range! This dress can also be worn multiple ways. I went with the Grecian style, one shoulder look but there are so many other options.

Hope you enjoy the pictures, chat soon! xx

New Years Eve

Dress / Tunic: Good Earth India (similar here and here), Shoes: ASOS (similar here), Handbag: Chanel via Ruby’s Luxury Collection

Hi Friends!

I’m sorry I am so behind in my blogging, the past two weeks have been an absolute blur of jetlag, hens nights, wedding prep and bridesmaids duties, my husbands birthday, the wedding and then Christmas. There is so much I want to share with you and I promise to play catch up over the next week or so, but today I want to look ahead to NYE.

I don’t know about you but I think most people are either ‘New Years’ people or they aren’t. I was definitely the former until 4 years ago when we got married on the 30th of December and ever since then our anniversary has eclipsed NYE. Each year however my husband and I spent the night in our favourite hotel in Melbourne CBD so I still get to bust out my NYE outfit just 24 hours early :).

So here are my tips for NYE:

  • If you are into sparkles and sequins; barring a trip to Las Vegas, you will not find a better occasion to indulge in some wearable bling so, go for it.
  • If you aren’t going to go for the full sequinned dress make sure you go big with another type of accessory. Ive gone for big statement earrings in the outfit above but you could also do a chunky necklace or a cocktail ring.
  • Melbourne is notoriously iffy weather wise so be prepared for anything. This mini dress can also be worn as a tunic over skinny jeans. Have a look at this post where I styled it with simple white jeans.
  • Stilettos are really fun and glamorous but if you are doing the city fireworks or a long day- to- night function you might want to opt for flats or at least a lower, block heeled option.
  • NYE is a really great night to play with your makeup. False eyelashes or a bold lip can be fun ways to mix things up. A great idea is to pop into a makeup shop like Mecca, MAC or Sephora and chat to one of the professionals about easy ways to change up your look for a special occasion.
  • And finally, if you want to add a designer touch to your outfit, hiring a special bag for the weekend is a really simple and affordable way to go. I was lucky enough to win a free 4 day hire from Ruby’s Luxury Collection last week and its been the perfect week for me to play with a new handbag without the big investment.

The most important thing though is to make sure you are with people you love, the people who care about you and to ring in the New Year with as much happiness and laughter as you can. It seems that for most people I know, 2016 has been a universally challenging year, so I wish everyone an amazing 2017. Thank you again for all of your support of The Mummy Style Files. It’s been an amazing and adventurous year and I can’t wait to share 2017 with you. Make sure you tag me in your NYE outfits, I’d love to see what you’re wearing and what you get up to.

Happy New Year everyone, much love xxx

Festive OOTD

Hi Friends!

Sorry the blog has been a little quiet this week, we are busy getting ready for our trip back to Melbourne and planning our next steps for 2017. I promise to catch you all up once we are back on home ground next week.

Today however I thought I’d just pop in with a little Outfit Of The Day post (OOTD). I felt quite festive in this combo despite the lack of obvious ‘christmassy’ attire. Gold is a great option for the holiday period as are big statement jewellery pieces. These two things can take an ordinary outfit, like my jeans and jumper, and give it a little more life (and put a pep in your step).

Hope everyone is enjoying the lead up to Christmas and not feeling too frazzled! xx

What I Wore Wednesday

Shirt: Zara, Jeans: Blossom and Glow, Shoes: Marks and Spencer

Hi Friends!

Happy hump day 😊. Our week is flying by so quickly, I can’t believe that it’s Wednesday already! Poor Alexander is teething so badly, we are all feeling a little worse for wear as you can probably tell by the photos above.

Hopefully my outfit is good enough to take your focus away from my tired face lol!

If you read my post on the weekend you would know that this top has been on my Wishlist for a few weeks now, but thanks to the currency issues in Delhi I’ve had to wait for it. Well thankfully the universe and Zara Gods were kind to me because yesterday I went into Zara and this was the very last one left and it was in my size!! Woohoo.

I went with simple styling pairing it with some distressed denim, my slides and a chunky necklace. Thanks to all the embroidery on the front I really didn’t need this necklace but I threw it on at the last minute!

That’s all I’ve got for you today as my to-do list is growing by the second. It’s less than 2 weeks until we leave for Melbourne and suddenly I’m faced with packing our lives up yet again! Didn’t I just do that, like last month? Haha time flies…. xxx
